CITB is the Industry Training Board and a partner in the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in England, Scotland and Wales. Representing every part of our industry, we shape how training is delivered and funded to meet the UK construction sector’s evolving needs.

The role

Applications are welcomed for the role of Technical Developer in construction health, safety and environment to join a professional, dynamic and forward-thinking team of other technical developers of various specialities, co-ordinating and managing both internal and external stakeholders. The role is supported by our dedicated Product Management team.

CITB Product Management is responsible for many of the CITB key products, ensuring they are aligned to industry needs, have maximum impact, and continue to develop as the industry and technologies evolve. These products include a successful suite of Site Safety Plus (SSP) courses, examinations and accompanying publications aimed at equipping operatives, through to the senior managers supporting them, with the skills needed to progress.

As a Technical Developer you will be responsible for decision making in your specific expertise of construction health, safety and environment in collaboration with a project team. You will have significant impact on the strategy and development of CITB products, with responsibility for maintaining and developing technical content. You will work with others to create innovative and high-quality products, managing both internal and external stakeholders and during the development of a course you will report updates, risks etc to the project manager.

As the Technical Developer in Health Safety & Environment you will hold an essential role in supporting the UK construction industry not only in the development of courses but by being a key voice and providing subject matter supporting the wider business.

Key activities

  • Staying abreast of market developments in the sphere of construction health safety and environment and responding proactively
  • Translate technical materials into product content such as the production of the Construction site safety (GE700) publication and CITB health, safety and environment tests
  • Be part of a vibrant professional project groups and deliver work packages that are assigned to you in a range of interesting challenging topics
  • Attend and input into external stakeholder meetings as the technical expert to demonstrate collaboration between CITB and industry to meet the training demands of a wide range of occupations and ultimately improve standards of health and safety across the industry
  • As part of the development team, be the subject matter expert within Product Management for construction health, safety and environment

About you

Key attributes for this role are that you will have extensive knowledge and experience of working in construction environments in the area of health, safety and environment; you may have a specific skillset in construction health, safety or environment. You could have gained this knowledge and experience through a variety of previous roles, with the key requirement being your ability to use your expertise to create and update content in a variety of products, including courses, assessments, publications and digital products.

As a minimum, you will hold a NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (RQF/CQFW Level 3), or you will be currently working towards the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (RQF/CQFW Level 6)

You will have experience of being able to work to detailed project plans, with excellent time management skills, along with highly developed written skills and be a confident presenter.

You will have the ability to be able to translate technical material into product content for a range of audiences from operatives, supervisors and managers and be always committed to maintaining your own knowledge of up to date legislation.

You will be able to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and with external stakeholders.
