About the role:

To effectively engage government in order to:

  • Gather input into CITB’s evidence base and inform CITB’s strategy and policy development
  • Deliver CITB’s influencing objectives by influencing government policy to change to deliver CITB’s objectives for the Construction Industry
  • Support CITB’s reach and impact by helping to position CITB with government as the go-to body for insight and expertise on construction skills.

To support the development and management of strong and collaborative relationships with government including (as appropriate to portfolio) ministers, parliamentarians and elected officials, and relevant civil servants across England, Scotland and Wales.

Anyone taking this role will have the opportunity to apply for a Senior Policy & Government Relations Advisor in the next 12 months. The recruitment for the Senior Government Relations advisor will be an internal hire among existing Policy & Government relations advisor team members.

Essential:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent vocational qualification
  • A good understanding of the political system and how the process works across the local area
  • Political awareness
  • Experience on managing, implementing and evaluating proactive political engagement campaigns, including policy development
  • Experience of working with MPs, Ministers, AMs, civil servants and local government
  • Experience of adhering to processes and procedures, in line with business excellence
  • Working with senior managers to provide measured media advice
  • Demonstrable experience of working effectively with senior stakeholders
  • Event management experience
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the construction industry and built environment.
  • Knowledge of policy issues related to skills, training and employment.
