Role purpose:

To ensure the required impact and cost effectiveness of CITB’s communications activities is achieved through the use of social media.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for the social media activity across platforms and profiles for CITB including, planning and scheduling of content and monthly performance reporting.
  2. Work with the wider comms and marketing team and with agency partners to feed into campaign planning with social requirements.
  3. Manage access to social media management tools and work with the Digital Channel Business Partner to identify gaps in technology.
  4. Work with the Digital Channel Business Partner to deliver against the social media strategy, effectively aligning and integrating with CITB’s communications strategy.
  5. Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders and team members on social best practice and support with relevant training for stakeholders.
  6. Keep up-to-date on the skills, training and employment issues impacting on the construction industry and how CITB is responding to these.
  7. Monitor social media performance against KPIs using performance monitoring and measurement tools and implement improvements to our social media approach to drive improved results.
  8. Ensure compliance with rules and regulations regarding social media use Work with the wider comms and marketing team and agency partners to identify opportunities for paid performance.

Knowledge and Experience:


  1. A relevant degree, equivalent vocational qualification or experience
  2. Experience in leading the initial design, development, execution, optimisation and analytics of a social media strategy/campaign
  3. Proven track record commissioning content from a range of suppliers and managing online and social media content aligned to a content calendar
  4. Expert knowledge of creating engaging content for social media channels
  5. Ability to write engaging content which communicates key messages
  6. Ability to use social media management tools
  7. Ability to effectively and confidently communicate with people at all levels both internally and externally
  8. Strong understanding of the UK social media landscape
  9. Project management skills
  10. Excellent organisational and planning skills.


  1. Awareness of challenges faced by British Construction
  2. Advanced design/video editing skills
  3. A recognised qualification in journalism or digital media.

Special Conditions/Other Requirements:

Occasional travel throughout GB may be required, which could include overnight stays.
