CITB is the Industry Training Board and a partner in the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in England, Scotland, and Wales. Representing every part of our industry, we shape how training is delivered and funded to meet the UK construction sector’s evolving needs.

The role

Applications are welcomed for the role of Course Development Technical Developer to join a professional, dynamic, and forward-thinking group of technical developers within our Product Management team.

CITB Product Management is responsible for many CITB key products, ensuring they are aligned to industry needs, have maximum impact, and continue to develop as the industry and technologies evolve. These products include a successful suite of Site Safety Plus (SSP) courses, examinations, and accompanying publications. The courses are aimed at operatives through to senior managers, supporting them with the skills needed to progress through the industry.

As a technical developer you will be responsible for utilising your educational expertise, and work in collaboration with a project team. You will have significant impact on the strategy and development of CITB products, with responsibility for maintaining and developing existing and new products in line with ever changing industry requirements.

You will work with external stakeholders, including industry experts, trainers, and product development groups, constantly creating, reviewing, and updating the suite of SSP products.

You will have overall responsibility for course design, ensuring that it meets the learning needs of the product. You will also work with other experts to produce supporting material, such as workbooks and associated learning material, to enhance the courses we offer and support all who use them.

The successful candidate will work with others to create innovative and high-quality products. The role involves working alongside a team of other technical developers of various specialities, co-ordinating and managing both internal and external stakeholders. The role is supported by a dedicated project team.

Key activities

You will:

  • be responsible for the end-to-end design and development of course materials that enhance the learning process with a variety of learning style approaches, including supporting a robust assessment strategy
  • produce layouts, prototypes, and scripts in the design of relevant course material, paying close attention to delivery methods
  • provide technical advice during learning development projects and recommend options for delivering compelling course material that enhances the transfer and retention of skills and knowledge
  • be self-motivated and able to manage workloads to deliver multiple tasks to different suppliers as per delivery schedules, whilst also working towards team targets
  • work with internal and external experts to test and quality assure course material produced within the team, seeking continuous feedback and improvement
  • be part of a vibrant professional project group and deliver work packages that are assigned to you in a range of interesting and challenging topics
  • attend, facilitate and provide input into external stakeholder meetings as the subject matter expert for your area of expertise
  • collaborate with industry to inform product development and maintain effective communications and working relationships with the team, CITB and other associated groups and bodies
  • contribute to the development team’s continual review and improvement of products, and drive for innovation in your area of expertise.

About you

Key attributes for this role are:

  • You have demonstrable experience of collaborating with industry stakeholders, subject matter experts and assessment experts to identify requirements, establish learning outcomes, define course structure and course material.
  • You have excellent knowledge of adult learning theories and are able to give examples of previous products you have designed and developed.
  • You own your continuous professional development so that you remain a current subject matter expert, keeping abreast of all relevant developments in legislation, technology and best practice.
  • You have experience of being able to work to detailed project plans with excellent time management skills. You are a confident presenter with highly developed written skills.
  • You can communicate effectively at all levels both internally and with external stakeholders.

This is a Specialist Contributor L3 role with an expected starting salary of £40,500 - £43,650
