Role purpose:

The Product Manager will lead the development and delivery of products that inspire and engage potential new entrants into the construction industry. This unique opportunity will promote careers within the sector through regional and national skills events, digital platforms, and creative engagement initiatives. The Product Manager will lead an inspired team, with a key focus on creating value for our stakeholders and demonstrating impact within the careers space.

The Product Manager will be responsible for:

  • Empowering their team to deliver effective careers products throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborating across departments to design and deliver new products that service the strategic needs of the sector.
  • Accurately forecasting financial projections and managing budgets.
  • Developing and executing performance measures that demonstrate impact and value.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

1. People Management

The Product Manager will create an environment where teams feel empowered and supported to perform to their potential. The Product Manager will support individuals along their development journey and will set the scene for teams to perform effectively.  

2. Product Planning

The Product Manager will plan effectively, using a range of information to create product roadmaps. The product roadmaps will highlight all stages of the product lifecycle and incorporate impactful performance measures and resource requirements.

3. Product Development

The Product Manager will inspire their teams to develop new and existing products that align to the strategic aims of the CITB. They will collaborate across the organisation to ensure development decisions are well informed and impactful.

4. Product Delivery

The Product Manager will utilise extensive research to deliver timely, impactful performance. They will harness product data and interpret this to inform product planning and development actions. They will ensure the product is viable, sustainable, and effective within its lifecycle. This will include ensuring the product meets contractual expectations via the drafting and delivery of SLA negotiations. Execution is critical and the Product Manager will ensure the people, planning and development phases lead to the successful delivery of the products.

5. Brand Identity & Product Representation

In many cases, the Product Manager will be the primary point of contact for the product. They will personally represent the product and will actively co-ordinate review groups, encouraging feedback from across the sector to ensure the currency and relevance of the product. Brand identity is an essential strategic element of each product. This role will evaluate where the product fits within the careers space and ensure actions are implemented to maintain optimal positioning.

6. Product Performance

The Product Manager will monitor and report on product performance, liaising with the analysis team to feed into the CITB Performance Hub. The role will include negotiation of SLA’s with stakeholders to ensure that products are contractually enabled to deliver impactful KPI’s. The Product Manager will work with the finance team to ensure that forecasted costings are holistic and accurate. The Product Manager will work closely with the strategy team to focus performance on areas aligned to the CITB strategy which create value and impact for our stakeholders.

7. Developing Collaborative Relationships

The Product Manager will develop collaborative relationships across CITB and its stakeholders. The interdependent nature of the CITB’s activities means that this will form a critical part of the role. Working across departments, the Product Manager will develop a trusted professional network to support the delivery of the products and the CITB’s strategic aims.   

8. Personal & Professional Development

The Product Manager will be a champion of personal and professional development. The role will require the Product Manager to develop their own skill set and to support the development of others. The Product Manager will co-ordinate team development activities and work with senior management to ensure their own learning journey is supported.

Desirable

  • Evidence of knowledge of construction industry
  • Good presentation skills
  • Experience of managing a product or product development is preferred
  • A project management qualification would be useful, as would demonstrable evidence of leading projects successfully
  • Expected to maintain personal development plans as per PPP, but no formal CPD required

Special Conditions/Other Requirements:

  • GB travel as required, expected to be frequent
  • Present and Represent CITB at events.
  • Full UK driving licence required
