Job Title: Apprenticeship Assurance & Compliance Auditor

Location: Mobile / Scotland

Salary Range: £36,000 - £44,000

Role Purpose:

Responsible for implementing and carrying out internal compliance audits and other assurance based activities to ensure CITB complies with all funding body and internal process requirements. 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • To manage compliance activity across CITB Apprenticeships / NCC
  • To carry out internal compliance audits to ensure CITB complies with all funding body requirements
  • Maintain and annual assurance and compliance cycle
  • Produce written audit reports in line with target dates
  • Ensure operational teams receive feedback on all internal and external control findings
  • Work with the relevant teams to ensure all data inconsistencies are resolved
  • Monitor open audit actions and report on progress to closure
  • Work with and support operational teams to ensure actions are closed
  • Provide subject matter expertise around funding rule and compliance
  • Work closely with operational teams to support the effective completion of enrolment documentation, including resolving any queries in a timely manner
  • Support with external funding body audits
  • Support with process changes required following funding rule changes
  • Provide hands on support to improve processes and documentation
  • Make recommendations for future process improvements
  • Support with non-funding related compliance activities e.g., document control processes

Knowledge and experience:


  • Up-to-date understanding of apprenticeship programmes and the apprenticeship learning journey
  • Knowledge of the work-based learning / apprenticeship environment
  • Detailed understanding of apprenticeship compliance and the funding rules
  • Experience in ESFA / DfE data compliance and audit regimes
  • Effective report writing skills to clearly communicate scope, outcomes and recommendations from audit activities
  • Able to identify operational / compliance risks
  • Experience of managing relationships, both external and internal
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Proven track record of consistently achieving performance targets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


  • Quality Management and / or audit qualifications

Special Conditions/Other Requirements:

  • Occasional travel and overnight trips may be required
